(UTV|COLOMBO) – Galle District Returning Officer Somaratne Vidanapathirana says the process of distributing voting cards to residencies for the Elpitiya Pradeshiya Sabha election scheduled to be conducted on the 11th of October has been completed.
Vidanapathirana said all polling centres which will be utilised for the election have been prepared.
He said 47 voting centres have been prepared to face the election on the 11th adding all officers who are necessary for the election have been trained, advised, issued their letter of appointment and around 750 staff are ready to perform their duties.
He stated the Elpitiya Technical College has also been prepped as the main election centre and all general facilities have been organised in this regard.
The Returning Officer also explained security arrangements which will be in place for the election.
He noted all security protocol for the election is of great importance remarking therefore he held discussions with the Deputy Inspector General of Police, all officers in charge of Police stations across the district and other senior Police officers and reached several critical decisions on security.
Accordingly Vidanapathirana said he and the DIG issued all relevant directives to officers, highlighting the Police Departments duties in order to ensure the free and peaceful conduct of the election.
He stated it is expected to deploy nearly 800 police personnel on special duty on the day of the election.
Meanwhile Vidanapathirana said mobile services and roadblocks will also be in place in order to promptly respond to any complaints of violation of election law or unrest.
