UNP, SLFP to discuss Constitutional reforms

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – A discussion will be held today between the Sri Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the United National Party (UNP) Ministers on the proposed Constitutional reforms, the Lands and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Gayantha Karunathilaka said.

Addressing a media briefing at UNP Headquarters ‘Sirikotha’ on Sunday (18), Minister Karunathilaka said Government Ministers of both SLFP and UNP will meet with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe to discuss the proposed Constitutional reforms Monday morning (19).

The committees of the two parties will hold separate discussions on the proposals for the Constitutional amendment prior to the meeting with the Prime Minister.

All Ministers are scheduled to meet President Maithripala Sirisena at the Presidential Secretariat to discuss the same issue this evening.

Minister Karunathilaka said that several rounds of talks had already been held between the senior Ministers of the two main parties on the issue of new Constitution, and Continuation of the Unity Government.

The Minister said that it has proposed that Ministers, the Prime Minister and the President meet once a month to discuss the challenges faced by the Government and find ways and means to overcome them.
