(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Tom Cruise is currently in Australia doing promotional rounds for “The Mummy” reboot following its premiere in Sydney on Monday night (22).
On Tuesday morning (23), those rounds included an appearance on Sunrise (Australia’s equivalent of the “Today” show) where the hosts asked him if a “Top Gun” sequel is happening. Cruise confirmed that: “I’m gonna start filming it probably in the next year.”
The sequel has long been in the works with Justin Marks penning the screenplay which will be set in contemporary times and involve ‘Drone technology and fifth generation fighters’ along with exploring the end of an era of dogfighting and fighter pilots who are being rendered obsolete.
Tony Scott had been slated to direct the film before his death in 2012. No new helmer has yet been set, but this is the first suggestion that a production date for it is now in sight.
