Sri Lanka to be the BIMSTEC Technology Transferring Hub

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Technology has become an integral part of our daily life and it is one of the core priority areas promoting science and technology for the benefit of the industry and commerce, therefore, Sri Lanka becomes the lead country for Technology Sector in BIMSTEC, says Grace Asirwatham, State Secretary of Indian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Delivering the keynote address at the dialogue on “BIMSTEC (Bengal Initiative for Multi-Sectoral Technical and Economic Cooperation) AT 20 – PRIORITIES FOR THE FUTURE”, Ms. Asirwatham further said that it was proposed to set up a BIMSTEC Technology Transfer Facility (TTF) as a hub in Sri Lanka, to expand technology bases through transfer of technology, collaboration and partnerships targeted towards micro-small-and medium-scale enterprises.

Since through these attempts, the technological advancement in the region will make a qualitative change in the regional cooperation and therefore, Sri Lanka, together with the member countries, should expedite setting up of this facility to enhance cooperation in technology among member countries, the State Secretary added.
