Special traffic plan in Colombo today

(UTV|COLOMBO) – A special traffic plan will be in place in Colombo today due to the visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Vehicular movement along the Colombo-Katunayake Expressway will be restricted between 11am and noon.

Police said vehicular movement from the Peliyagoda Flyover, the Orugodawatta Junction, the Dematagoda Junction, the Borella Junction, the Borella Cemetery Roundabout and the Baseline Road will also be restricted between 11am and noon.

The stretch from the Borella DS Senanayake Junction to Horton Place, Nelum Pokuna Roundabout, Ananda Coomaraswamy Mawatha, the Library Roundabout, Dharmapala Mawatha, Pittala Junction, Sir James Peries Mawatha and Kumar Ratnam Road will also be restricted during this timeframe.

Traffic will also be restricted along Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, York Street, Baron Jayathilake Mawatha, Reclamation Road, Lotus Road, Bank Road, Janadhipathi Mawatha, the Galleface Roundabout to the Old Parliament, between 11am and noon.

Traffic along these routes will be restricted once again from 2:30pm till 3:30pm.

Traffic along Janadhipathi Mawatha, Bank Road, York Street, Chittampalam A Gardiner Mawatha, Kumar Ratnam Road, Sir James Peries Mawatha, Flower Road and Thurston Road will be restricted between 1:45pm and 3pm today.

The Police urged the public to resort to alternate routes during these time periods.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive in the island on an official visit today.

This is the Indian Prime Minister’s second visit to a foreign nation after he took oath for a second term on the 30th of May.

The Indian Prime Minister arrives in the island on an invitation extended by President Maithripala Sirisena.

A special function will be held this afternoon at the Presidential Secretariat to welcome the visiting Prime Minister.

President Sirisena and Prime Minister Modi will subsequently hold bilateral talks which will be followed by a special banquet.

The President’s Media Division said the tour of the Indian Prime Minister will pave way to further strengthen longstanding bilateral relations between the two countries.
