Speaker John Bercow ‘strongly opposed’ to Donald Trump addressing British parliament

(UDHAYAM, LONDON) – The speaker of Britain’s lower house of parliament will try to block plans for US president Donald Trump to address the house, saying it is an honour he has not earned.

John Bercow and one of three officials who have the power to approve Trump addressing the House of Commons on a state visit later this year said, he would oppose the move, citing concerns over the US president’s immigration ban.

More than 1.8 million people in Britain have signed a petition calling for Trump’s visit planned following an official invitation by British Prime Minister Theresa May to be cancelled.
