SL Women qualify for 2017 World Cup

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Sri Lanka Women’s Team beat Bangladesh by 42 runs in a rain-affected Super Six round encounter of the Women’s World Cup Qualifier tournament, to book a place in the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup.

Set a revised 111 run target, the Bangladeshi women’s team was restricted to 68/5 in 21 overs at the NCC grounds this evening.

For the visitors Nigar Sultana top scored with 24. For the Lankans Udeshika Prabodini and Inoshi Priyadharshini chipped in with 2 wickets a piece.

Earlier after opting to bat first the Sri Lankan women posted 197 for 9 in their allotted 50 overs. In-form Chamari Athapattu scored a 84 off 114 deliveries.

Salma Khartun had figures of 3 for 18 for the Bangladeshi’s.

The victory helped the Sri Lankan Women to secure the 3rd spot in the Super 6 stages of the 2017 ICC Women’s World Cup Qualifier tournament.

Earlier, Pakistan women finished fourth in the tournament and joined Sri Lanka along with finalists India and South Africa in the 2017 Women’s Cricket Extravaganza.

The 2017 Women’s World Cup will be played worked off in June and July in England.

The four qualifiers in Colombo will be competing for honours with defending champions Australia, New Zealand and West Indies and hosts England.
