(UTV|COLOMBO) – Presidential candidate Sajith Premadasa today (Oct 3) pledged to empower military personnel and combat modern terrorism by granting them opportunities to engage in advanced training programmes.
“I promise that we won’t mistreat you and provide blue collar jobs like the previous government,” Premadasa said during the United National Party (UNP) convention at the Sugathadasa Stadium in Colombo.
He pointed out that democracy has been established in the country due to the soldiers who sacrificed their personal interests and their lives on behalf of the country.
UNP Deputy Leader Premadasa who will contest under the UNP-led Democratic National Front (DNF) said he would not encourage nepotism under his government.
“We only need talented individuals, professionals, and specialists if we are to work towards the welfare of the people,” he said.
