(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Investigations have been launched into media reports on websites which threaten national security.
United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Padma Udayashantha made an inquiry yesterday pertaining to such websites.
Speaking in Parliament today (10th Friday), the Parliamentarian raised the question today as well with detailed information.
MP Padma Udayashantha said LTTE propaganda with divisive intent is being shared on certain websites and Facebook profiles internationally.
The Parliamentarian said a large number of people in Sri Lanka are sharing significantly divisive ideologies.
He questioned what the organizations are and who the people behind this are claiming that it might even be in Parliament.
Responding to the question, Minister of Law and Order Sagala Ratnayake said the matter will be looked into.
Minister Sagala Ratnayake said he has directed them to launch an investigation into the matter, claiming that the content shared via Facebook is not shared with any responsibility or legal restraints.
The Minister said Facebook does have pages which are legally administrated, however, on Facebook just about anyone can make a profile and say anything they want.
Minister Sagala Ratnayake said anyone can stir a conspiracy claiming that investigations are underway and necessary steps will be taken.
