(UTV|COLOMBO) – Election Commission Chairman, Mahinda Deshapriya has told to a prominent online news portal in the isle that the date of the Presidential Election and the date for the calling of nominations will be published through a Gazette Notification within the next ten days.
The date of the Presidential Election and the date for the calling of nominations should be published through the same Gazette.
The nominations should be accepted within 16 to 21 days after the Election Commission publishes the Gazette.
It is also mentioned in the Presidential Elections Act that nominations cannot be called or elections cannot be held on a Poya day or on a Government holiday.
It further says that a Presidential Election should be held within four to six weeks after accepting the nominations and therefore, a suitable date will be announced by the Election Commission through a Gazette.
