Kendrick Lamar bests Drake to earn the highest first week sales of 2017

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The celebration only continues to intensify for Kendrick Lamar as the final sales for his highly praised latest offering, DAMN, are in.

According to Billboard, the MC has dethroned Drake to earn the highest selling album of 2017, thus far.

Kendrick’s first week sales are nothing short of staggering. The MC’s final sales figure stands at 603,000, with 353,000 being traditional album sales.

Lamar’s astronomical sales feat sees his best Drake’s first week sales for More Life (505,000) by almost 100,000 units.

This also marks the highest first week of sales for any album released since Drizzy went platinum with Views in 2016, where he sold 1.04 million copies in its first week of release.

On the streaming front, where K. Dot’s hip hop peer, Drake, shines best, the “Humble” rapper surpassed the 300 million streams mark in its first week only, making it the second album this year to do so; Drake’s More Life was the first, pushing 385 million streams.

K. Dot is no stranger to the No. 1 spot as this is the third album he’s released that achieved top billing. untitled.unmastered and To Pimp a Butterfly rightfully earned their spots at the top of the charts in previous years.
