Indian Naval Ship departs from Colombo Harbour

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel of the Indian Navy, Indian Naval Ship (INS) ‘Sumedha’ which arrived in Sri Lanka on a three day official visit, departed from the Colombo harbour on Wednesday (24). The Sri Lanka Navy bade customary farewell to the departing ship that set sail from the port of Colombo.

Sri Lanka Navy had organised a range of programmes which included training exercises, display of cultural performances and friendly sporting events for the crew of INS ‘Sumedha’, during their three-day stay in the country.

As part of the number of exercises performed, the crew of INS ‘Sumedha’ engaged in several towing, Station Keeping by Distance Line (SKBDL) and firefighting exercises together with the flagship of the Sri Lanka Navy, SLNS Sayura and a large number of Naval personnel on Tuesday (23).

The two Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessels being built for the Sri Lanka Navy at Goa Shipyard Ltd in India are also state of the art ships which fall into the category of INS ‘Sumedha’ (AOPV).

In year 2016, fifty-seven ships and thus far in 2017 twenty ships belonging to the foreign navies and coast guards had made similar ports of call in Sri Lanka.
