First Replacement Air Force Group leaves for UN mission in Sudan

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – 56 Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) personnel left the country as the first replacement group of the SLAF Aviation Unit under the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) on Tuesday (27), states Air Force Media.

The group departed the country from the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) where their family members and air force officials were present.

The Aviation Unit in South Sudan under the UNMISS was the SLAF’s second aircraft deployment overseas. The helicopter deployment is currently carrying out VIP (Very Important Person) transportation, transportation of food and equipment, domestic flying, para dropping and medical evacuation in the South Sudan, in support of the overall United Nations (UN) mandate for that nation.
