‘Dala Poottuwa killed for Rs. 2 million’ – probe reveals

UTV|COLOMBO – The National Environment Guild says that the killing of Galgamuwe Dala Poottuwa has been well planned.

It said that the intention was to sell the tusks and elephant pearls for 2 million rupees.

The Members of the Guild disclosed those details when the met with the Director General of Wildlife this morning (29).

Later, the Convener of the Guild, Venerable Pahiyangala Ananda Sagara Thera said that that he believes that a monk was also involved in the killing of the tusker.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Sustainable Development and Wildlife, Gamini Jayawickrema Perera has ordered to deploy 5 teams to carry out a search operation to locate remnants of the carcass of Galgamuwe Dala Poottuwa.

Minister Perera said that parts of the carcass had been buried at a plot of private land in Polpithigama, Kurunegala.

It has been revealed that racketeers have removed the tusks and pearls of the elephant after killing it.

The Anti-vice unit of Walana, Panadura apprehended a pair of tusks and elephant pearls on the 22nd of November along with 2 suspects.

The suspects were to sell those items and they were arrested in Nikawewa, Polipithigama.
