Chandimal says ‘not an easy call’ to drop vice-captain to bring in Dhananjaya

UTV | COLOMBO – Gritty batting display by Dhananjaya de Silva helped Sri Lanka to draw their 3rd and final Test against India in Delhi yesterday (06).

He scored 119 before returning to the dressing room with a thigh injury.

He batted for 257 minutes and faced 219 balls hitting 15 fours and a six.

Dhananjaya ended up making the highest fourth-innings score by a visiting batsman in India.

He came into the match replacing Vice-captain Lahiru Thirimanne.

After the match, skipper Dinesh Chandimal said that dropping of Thirimanne was not an easy decision.

Chandimal added that he was relieved after the inclusion of Dhananjaya was paid off.

Chandimal said, “We had full trust in him at number 3. We knew he would give some bowling option as well and he has grabbed the opportunity with both hands”.

Chandimal also said that they are impressed with Roshen Silva’s performance that made 74 not out in the second innings.
