(UTV|COLOMBO) – Former Speaker Chamal Rajapaksa (SLFP) Parliamentarian has withdrawn from the Presidential race.
Mr. Chamal Rajapaksa had placed cash deposits to contest the election next month.
However he withdrew from the race today.
A cash deposit was placed at the Elections Commission on behalf of Chamal Rajapaksa last week to contest the Presidential election.
However the Sri Lanka Podujana Peramuna (SLPP) later said that his nomination was a back-up plan in the event Gotabaya Rajapaksa was prevented from contesting by court.
Gotabaya Rajapaksa last week won a case seeking to prevent him from contesting the 2019 Presidential election.
