(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Astrologer Vijitha Rohana Wijemuni arrested and remanded on charges of making false predictions regarding the fate of President Maithripala Sirisena will be produced before court today (01st Wednesday).
The arrest was made by the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) last evening. Subsequently, Colombo Chief Magistrate Lal Bandara issued an order to remand Vijitha Rohana Wijemuni till today.
Vijitha Rohana is said to have predicted the death of President Sirisena on social media. The astrologer, a former sailor, is also known to have attacked visiting Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi with a rifle butt in 1987.
Wijemuni was part of a naval guard of honour in July 1987 when Rajiv Gandhi was visiting Sri Lanka to sign the Indo-Lanka Peace Accord.
As Gandhi walked past the guard of honour Wijemuni raised his rifle and attempted to attack the Prime Minister.
