Army continues Dengue eradication campaign

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Adding strength to the national Dengue eradication programme, the Sri Lanka Army established another temporary medical laboratory at the Kiribathgoda base hospital premises in order to expedite the pre-screening of blood samples for diagnosis of Dengue patients, states Army media.

This is the second such medical laboratory established by the Army. Medical personnel of the Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps (SLAMC) will conduct blood tests for Dengue antigen for patients attending the hospital. Army earlier had established such a facility at the Negombo hospital.

Meanwhile the special Dengue prevention programme, presently carried out in the Western Province by the Security Force Headquarters – West (SFHQ-West), continue operate in areas including Hanwella, Homagama, Kaduwela, Piliyandala, Pitakotte, Kahathuduwa, Attanagalla, Mirigama, Dompe, Biyagama, Kelaniya, Horana, Mathugama, Wadduwa and Bandaragama areas in the Colombo, Gampaha and Kalutara districts.

Around 500 troops are deployed in the programme which commenced on the 01st of this month.
