WTO Trade Facilitation Agreement To Commence

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – Sri Lanka’s first country session for exporters on the historic World Trade Organization Trade Facilitation Agreement will commence in Colombo today.

The session will be addressed by the Vice President of the Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation Donia Hammami, Global Alliance for Trade Facilitation’s Trade Expert and Senior Advisor Eric Miller including the Chairman of International Chamber of Commerce Sri Lanka Keerthi Gunawardane, Minister of Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen among others.

The WTO’s Trade Facilitation Agreement, agreed in 2013, was the first multilateral trade agreement since the creation of the WTO in 1995.

It came in to force this February and was accepted by 112 member countries including Sri Lanka.

A statement released by the Ministry of Industry said the WTO TFA provides a unique opportunity to promote inclusive growth by making cross-border trade easier, quicker and less costly for businesses of all sizes.
