Wimal raises objections to signing the MCC grant

(UTV|COLOMBO) – United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) Parliamentarian Wimal Weerawansa says the signing of the Millennium Challenge Corporation grant could be detrimental to the future of the country.

Speaking at a media briefing in Colombo yesterday the MP said the United States through the grant will seek to intervene in government affairs.

MP Weerawansa noted that after singing the MCC agreement, those who signed the deal will step aside from the political scene pointing out that a number of countries have suffered due to the MCC agreements.

Parliamentarian Weerawansa added the US will observe whether it can appoint a dummy government which can be swayed according to its requirement, adding that, if the US fails to achieve their goals, they will withdraw from the agreement and the country will experience economic turmoil and political uncertainty.

MP Weerawansa reiterated that the agreement was a raid on the nation.
