Supreme Court postpones contempt case against MP Namal Rajapakse

(UDHAYAM, COLOMBO) – The case filed by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption against Parliamentarian (MP) Namal Rajapaksa was taken up for hearing at the Supreme Court yesterday (16th Monday).

The case was taken up before a three-bench supreme court panel headed by Chief Justice K Sri Pawan. According to reports, the charge sheets against MP Rajapaksa were explained in detail during the hearing yesterday.

The Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption filed the petition citing MP Rajapaksa failed to adhere to instructions issued by the Commission pertaining to investigations over the misappropriation of funds and therefore defamed the state institution.

The petition cites MP Namal Rajapaksa’s failure to respond to summons was in contempt of the state institution.

However during the hearing yesterday, defence lawyer plead his client’s innocence. Accordingly the case was adjourned till the 31st of January.
