Christians celebrate Christmas Day today – [VIDEO]

(UTV|COLOMBO) – Christians in Sri Lanka and world over mark the birth of baby Jesus today.

Christians celebrate Christmas Day as the anniversary of the birth of Jesus of Nazareth, a spiritual leader whose teachings form the basis of their religion.

Popular customs include exchanging gifts, decorating Christmas trees, attending church and sharing meals with family and friends.

Christians attended midnight masses across the island to mark this important day on the Christian calendar.

Our correspondents meanwhile said millions of devotees attended masses across the country.

The main Christmas mass in the country was held at the Negombo Katuwapitiya St. Sebastian Church with Arch Bishop Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith conducting the mass.
