2017 World Economic Forum to get underway in Switzerland

(UDHAYAM, DAVOS) – The 2017 World Economic Forum is scheduled to commence in Davos, Switzerland today.

A seven member delegation led by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe left the island yesterday (16th Monday) to participate in the forum.

The summit will look into new developments in the world economy during the event which is scheduled to conclude on the 21st of January.

Heads of State of around 40 countries and 2,500 leading international businessmen and economic experts are expected to attend the forum.

This is the second time a Sri Lankan leader is invited to participate in the World Economic Forum, as Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe was invited to participate in the forum last year as well.

Premier Wickremesinghe during his stay in Davos will meet with Switzerland officials and leading international businessmen for discussions.

The Office of the Prime Minister said the summit is of great significance as world leaders gather to compile an agenda for the global and regional economy.
